Nobuhiro Tajima, a.k.a. "Monster Tajima," has been participating in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with Suzuki machines since 1988. He is the owner/driver of Team Monster Sports. In 1995, Tajima achieved his first overall win in a twin-engine Suzuki Escudo, and won the title an amazing six consecutive years from 2006-2011. The 2011 machine, the Suzuki SX4, was entered in the same unlimited class (no restrictions on modifications) as in previous years. Its steel tube space frame is covered by a carbon-Kevlar-composite cowling, highlighted by a massive wing that generates massive amounts of downforce. Although it has some visual traces of the SX4 remaining in its design—the headlights and front grille are decals—it is effectively a one-off specialty car. Mounted amidships a Suzuki H27A 3,071 cc twin-turbo V6-based engine that the team is continually developing. It produces 897 HP and 654.5 ft-lb of torque. The vehicle weight is 1,090 kg, making its power-to-weight ratio an amazing 1.21 kg/HP. The Pikes Peak Hill Climb is a time trial that starts at an elevation of 2,862 m, driving up a 19.9 km course to an elevation of 4,301 m. The elevation difference is 1,439 m, with an average incline of 7 percent, and there are 156 corners. During one race, the SX4 driven by Tajima lost some time due to water pump and power steering trouble, but still managed to pull off an overall victory. Not only that, the SX4 broke the 10-minute barrier for the first time in Pikes Peak history, establishing a world record of 9 minutes, 51.278 seconds. Nobody can climb like "Monster" Tajima!
