It lies hidden between railway tracks and allotment gardens. Its name comes from the now-defunct Lower Silesian Electric Machine Factory DOLMEL, one of the largest industrial plants in post-war Wrocław. Although Dolmelowski Grove does not appear on official maps, the name has long been rooted in the memory of local residents. There are no signs, information boards, or designated access roads leading to it — only informal footpaths. Today’s grove emerged naturally on the grounds of former sports fields and industrial facilities that became overgrown with wild vegetation after World War II. The area is dominated by deciduous trees — oaks, maples, wild cherries, and scattered pines — with ivy, wild shrubs, and thickets forming the undergrowth. The site features a rich, though mostly ruderal vegetation, meaning plants that thrive in areas transformed by human activity. Remnants of the past can still be found here: fragments of bridges, railway viaducts, and early 20th-century German infrastructure. Although the place is sometimes polluted and forgotten, it remains a valuable natural enclave in the industrial part of the city and a peaceful retreat for nearby residents. Today, Dolmelowski Grove serves as an informal “museum” of nature and industrial history in Wrocław, preserving the unique character of a semi-wild urban forest.
