Sometimes Walking Away is the Right Decision

This video is a personal account of my experience on a dog training mentorship programme and the impact it had on my mental health. I was diagnosed with schizotype in 1998, and throughout my life I have faced challenges with confidence, social interactions, trust, and feeling that I fit in. Despite those challenges, I have always had a passion for dogs and a desire to learn as much as I can about training and behaviour. I joined the mentorship hoping to develop my skills and grow as a dog trainer. Instead, I found that the experience had a negative impact on my confidence and overall wellbeing. Over time, I realised I needed to step away and prioritise my mental health. This video is not about attacking any individual or organisation. It is simply an honest reflection on my own experience and the lessons I have learned from it. One of the biggest lessons for me was that not every learning environment is the right fit for every person. Protecting your mental health is just as important as developing your professional skills. If sharing my experience helps even one person feel less alone or encourages someone to put their wellbeing first, then this video has served its purpose. Thank you for watching and for being part of the journey. #DogTraining #MentalHealth #DogTrainer #PersonalJourney #CanineBehaviour #DogTrainingCommunity #Schizotypal #MentalHealthAwareness #Dogs #DogTrainerLife
