Exploring the legendary Abandoned Sears HQ in Boyle Heights/Los Angeles

Once a bustling heart of East LA commerce, the Sears, Roebuck & Company Mail Order Building opened in 1927 as a massive Art Deco distribution center and retail store, employing thousands and serving the local community for decades. It’s been a prominent architectural landmark and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The upper floors were mostly vacated after Sears ended its mail-order operations in 1992, and the ground-floor retail store continued serving customers until it finally closed in April 2021, marking the end of nearly 94 years of business following retail struggles worsened by the pandemic era. The 1.8 million square foot complex sits mostly abandoned and in decay, with broken windows, empty halls, and boarded-up sections. It’s become a subject of urban exploration interest — though access is restricted, and many attempts to enter the iconic building have been thwarted by security and safety concerns. I am one of the only people to have explored it in recent years without getting caught. What I find inside is absolutely mind-blowing. #urbex #losangeles #decay #abandonedplaces #forgottenhistory #exploring #adventure #california
