Eselbank Pass (Cederberg) - Mountain Passes of South Africa

This tricky pass connects Eselbank with Wupperthal in the Cederberg, Western Cape. The steepest parts have been rudimentally concreted to provide better traction in wet weather, but those suffering from acrophobia should avoid this pass as it has some very steep, unguarded drop offs. To add to that most of the pass is single width, which means getting past an oncoming vehicle will require one of the vehicles to move off the track. Although it is only recommended for high clearance 4x4 vehicles, we have often seen small, normal cars driving the route. Whilst our videos are informative, to get the complete information we strongly recommend getting the full facts on our website.
