Hello friends! Today I'm bringing you a very special video. We've just added a new model of raised bed or planter that doesn't require irrigation (Watering: Sprinkling water over the soil or over a plant to benefit it). You just have to fill a water reservoir, and evaporation, capillarity, and the plant roots do their thing. Although a little watering is necessary at the time of transplanting, which is why I say it hardly needs any irrigation. After that, the only source of water from above would be rain, since if we water it, we make a huge mess by contaminating the reservoir... that's why it's like, GROW WITHOUT WATERING! This bed is known as the #WickingBed or #CamasAbsorbentes in Spanish and was developed by Australian inventor Colin Austin 👉 http://bit.ly/3r6BZsL in the 1990s. Since then, countless versions and improvements have emerged, mainly in Australia, where this technology is very popular due to its great need to conserve water resources. The idea is very good, and the results I've seen from several Australian YouTubers are amazing. In my case, the planter is 50 cm wide, 100 cm long, and 55 cm high, not including the legs. Worm hotel: One 110 mm PVC pipe, bamboo, or similar, 50 cm high, and a lid. Various materials to protect the polyethylene, such as cardboard, carpet, other plastics, etc. Polyethylene (200 micron plastic in my case; 400 is better). I used 2 x 2 meters and had some left over. Drainage: 1 1/2-inch tank flange or downpipe for drainage 1 90° elbow, also 1/2-inch 1 1/2-inch nipple or pipe, also 25 cm, in my case, but I can lengthen it. 1 40 mm PVC pipe to fill the reservoir. It can be bamboo or some other material that can withstand the passage of time in water. Reservoir: For the reservoir, I've already talked about the materials. It's all recyclable, although if you don't have any, putting rocks on the bottom and sand on top will suffice. The important thing is that it can support the heavy weight of the soil we'll put on top; if the weight crushes it, it's useless. Materials to separate the soil from the reservoir: This can be frost-resistant fabric, interlining, or the best option is geotextile matting, old fabric or sheets, old carpets, or anything that will keep the elements out and prevent the air/water from entering. Other models with different materials and sizes will follow.
