"¿LA REBELDÍA SE VOLVIÓ DE DERECHA?" - Pablo Stefanoni
“Has Rebellion Turned Right?” is a book by the Argentine historian Pablo Stefanoni, published in 2021 by Siglo XXI. Stefanoni explores one of the central questions in the politics of the last decade: how the electoral option of the radicalized right has captured the appeal of a growing, and even majority, segment of the population in numerous countries, from high-income to middle- and low-income. The most striking aspect of this growth of the radicalized right is that it has gained the support of sectors of the population that, until recently, voted for left-wing or center-left candidates—sectors of the working class or even the excluded and marginalized. Stefanoni's question is highly pertinent, since this support for the new radicalized right arises from resonating with the weariness and indignation of citizens with a world that seems to benefit only a few. A situation that until recently would have increased the appeal of the left, today is a channel for adherence to the radicalization of the right. One factor to analyze is how the traditional conservative right ends up being co-opted by these new right-wing movements that link up with each other to form a constellation of a new, radicalized right, made up of neo-reactionaries, libertarians, paleolibertarians, and representatives of the alt-right; which constructs its own enemy: communism in a post-communist world. Groups that do not hide their anti-egalitarian, xenophobic, and in some cases misogynistic and racist positions; yet (or worse, because of this) they manage to capture the attention of a socially diverse mass, whose common ground is anger against the political elites, the media, and the economic elites. In parallel, he also analyzes the possible reasons why the old left has lost its appeal to the majority, taking refuge in the cultural sphere, which the new right will label "Cultural Marxism." Names like Donald Trump, Javier Milei, Elon Musk, Curtis Yarvin, Nick Land, and Peter Thiel are part of this fascinating story that Pablo Stefanoni weaves together to try to answer his initial hypothesis: "Has rebellion turned right-wing?" #rebellion #politics #right #left #milei #libertarian #newright See also the "Books, Thought and Society" playlist • Libros.
