Lightning XS904 - Bruntingthorpe Cold War Jets May 2018
The Lightning preservation Groups English Electric/BAC Lightning F.6, XS904, is seen here during an appearance at its Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground/Airfield base, during the May 2018 Cold War Jets event. The Lightning is in running condition and is seen taxiing and completing a fast taxi run along the runway before the engines are cut and the brake chute deployed by pilot Wing Commander John Ward, AFC, RAF, (Retired). The aircraft wears its last RAF Service squadron colour scheme of 11 Squadron. The Squadrons double eagle badge was approved by King George VI in May 1937 and commemorates the unit's operation of two-seat fighter-reconnaissance aircraft during World War One. The eagles symbolise speed and strength. Lightning XS904 first flew in August 1966. It was delivered to 11 Squadron at RAF Leuchars in April 1968. It spent most of its service life with 11 squadron before being retired from service and delivered to the Lightning Preservation Group in January 1993, having completed 4034 flights and 4161.51 flying hours, including 203 hours with British Aerospace at Warton. https://lightnings.org.uk/ Video and Audio content is Copyright © 2018 S Keeler This video and audio material may not be reproduced in any form (except as the videos Youtube embedded video option on any other website), without written permission.
