Our guest, Prof. Volker Quaschning, doubts the potential of district heating for the heat transition and explains why #districtheating is currently so harmful to the climate and which energy sources can be used to make it green in the future. Since Robert Habeck's #HeatingAct and the Building Energy Act, sales of #gasheaters have actually increased, and #oilheaters have continued to be installed. At the same time, the market for #heatpumps has not grown as much as predicted and is also essential for the heat transition. Prof. Quaschning attempts to explain this phenomenon, especially against the backdrop of a sharp rise in CO2 prices and thus significantly rising #gas prices in the coming years, as well as the requirement to use a proportion of renewable energy in gas and oil heating systems from 2029 onwards.
