KOMPAS.TV - Several regions in Indonesia are experiencing price fluctuations for staple foods, directly impacting both traders and livestock farmers. In Medan, North Sumatra, beef prices remain at around Rp 150,000 per kilogram, resulting in a 50 percent drop in sales. Increases have also been seen in other staples, such as premium rice, which is now selling for around Rp 16,500 per kilogram, while the price of cooking spices remains relatively high. On the other hand, egg-laying chicken farmers in Madiun and Batu City, East Java, are facing losses due to the plummeting price of eggs over the past few weeks. Egg prices at the farmer level are only around Rp 18,000 to Rp 20,000 per kilogram, with wholesalers even reaching Rp 17,000 per kilogram. The ideal price for farmers to profit is estimated to be above Rp 24,000 per kilogram. Some farmers are choosing to hold onto egg stocks, hoping for government intervention to stabilize prices. Meanwhile, a different situation is occurring in Kediri City, East Java. The prices of cayenne pepper and shallots have actually decreased due to abundant supply and decreased demand after MBG kitchen operations temporarily halted during the school holidays.
