The man in question is Fox (George Riviere), who has appointed himself sheriff of Clay's hometown and abuses this power, while the townspeople live in fear of his gang. They had originally paid Fox to protect themselves from the bandit Ortiz (played by the always excellent Fernando Sancho), who is terrorizing the town. Caught between these two warring factions is Clay's daughter Nancy, who believes her father is dead and thinks Clay is merely a local hero. They are reunited but find themselves caught in the crossfire between the two gangs, mischievously coordinated by Estella (Ethel Rojo), who is as cunning as she is beautiful (and my goodness, is she beautiful!). "Minnesota Clay" is one of the earliest Spaghetti Westerns, directed by Sergio Corbucci before "Django." While not as gripping or dark as the films he made during the Spaghetti Western boom of 1966–1970, it's still a highly entertaining movie, peppered with the usual dose of injustice we've come to expect from his films. Mitchell, Sancho, and Riviere are consistently captivating, and Rojo's portrayal of Estella could win any man's heart (no wonder her character is so adept at manipulating those around her). My only criticism would be the dubbing of the characters Nancy (a bit whiny) and Andy (who comes across as a sort of Frank Spencer—apologies to any non-English-speaking readers who might not get the comparison!) in the English audio track. Once you get used to these minor dubbing issues (which, frankly, doesn't take too long), you can truly enjoy "Minnesota Clay" for the highly watchable film it is.
