Hoe maak je Griekse Gyros?

Welcome to Cooking with Jop! In this video, I share a delicious recipe for Gyros*, a classic dish from Greek cuisine. This dish is perfect on a homemade pita with tzatziki. Follow the step-by-step instructions and enjoy a delicious meal full of flavor and with a pinch of salt! *Ingredients: 2 kilos pork neck or shoulder chops 1 red onion 3 cloves of garlic 100 ml olive oil 2 teaspoons mild mustard 1 lemon 2 tablespoons honey 2 tablespoons salt 2 tablespoons oregano 2 teaspoons thyme 2 teaspoons black pepper 2 teaspoons ground cumin 1 tablespoon (smoked) paprika 1-2 teaspoons chili flakes Instructions: Step 1 Slice 2 kilos pork neck into thin slices, or use boneless shoulder chops Step 2 Make the marinade: Puree 1 red onion and 3 cloves of garlic. Place the puree in a large bowl and add the following ingredients: 100 ml olive oil, 2 teaspoons mild mustard, juice of 1 lemon, 2 tablespoons honey, 2 tablespoons salt, 2 tablespoons oregano, 2 teaspoons thyme, 2 teaspoons black pepper, 2 teaspoons ground cumin, 1 tablespoon (smoked) paprika, 1-2 teaspoons chili flakes. Mix everything together well and add the slices of meat. Massage the marinade well into the meat until everything is well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it marinate in the refrigerator for 6-8 hours or overnight. Step 3 Skewer the slices of meat on a (vertical) skewer in a baking dish and cover the stack with aluminum foil. Step 4 Place the dish in the oven and bake for 2.5 hours at 175 degrees. Step 5 Remove the dish from the oven, remove the aluminum foil, and pour the liquid out of the dish. Return to the oven and bake for 45 minutes at 200 degrees until the outside of the meat is brown and crispy. Step 6 Cut thin strips from the stack of meat and top a pita or flatbread with them. Add plenty of tzatziki, and add slices of tomato, red onion, iceberg lettuce, and strips of cucumber. Cooking is fun. Indonesian food is delicious. Other cuisines are interesting too. And the fun part is: it doesn't have to be difficult at all to be able to make it yourself; you just need to know how. And that is what I try to show in this video channel: how you, even as a Dutch person, can still create those authentic flavors using the equipment you have in your kitchen and ingredients that are easy to obtain in the Netherlands! It is not magic. I will show you in clear, simple steps how you can achieve this yourself. And you will be amazed by the result!
