Mehdi El-Aquil Loves To Boogie (032) A very special mix here for episode thirty two, introducing to you Mehdi El-Aquil, fellow Radio Alhara member and creator of Condesa Electronics, custom built rotary mixers in demand by the world’s most revered DJs and the heart our set up here at ELTB. Based in Australia, this mix is mostly made up of records he picked up whilst visiting London, from record shops to an old friend Phil, who always has a few crates of good tunes for sale. He also brought a bag of 7"s over from his collection, so a few of those faves got a look in later in the mix. Mehdi is a bit obsessed with Reggae, Dub, Lovers Rock and early Dancehall records, of which many of these tunes feel timeless. He plays a few to kick things off and then slowly moves it towards some of the more staple sounds he often spins. Mehdi has been collecting records and DJ-ing since the late 80's. Born and raised in Kent on the outskirts of London, he was exposed to many different sounds through the decades, attracted to the sounds of Electro Boogie, Soul, Jazz Funk, Hip Hop, House music and the technical skills of the DJs that were playing these sounds drew him in further. His dad being from Morocco and his mother from Mauritius and their musical legacy introduced him to even more diverse sounds, this was solidified by family holidays to these destinations. He refined much of his craft as a DJ in Ibiza during the mid 90s, then playing in London and continuing to DJ in Australia since relocating in 2004 . He's always had an obsession with electronics, DJ-ing, recording and making music which led him to shift his knowledge towards making studio equipment and DJ Mixers, eventually establishing Condesa Electronics for his mixers 9 years ago. Mehdi's DJ style is diverse, eclectic and playful, with a leaning towards positive vibes.
