He Crossed No Man's Land 7 Times Under Fire | The Story of Robert Quigg VC
On 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme, a farm worker from Bushmills, County Antrim performed one of the most remarkable acts of courage in military history. Serving with the 12th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles of the famous 36th (Ulster) Division, Robert Quigg repeatedly crossed No Man's Land under intense enemy fire in search of his missing officer, Lieutenant Harry Macnaghten. Seven times he ventured into the killing ground between the trenches. Seven times he returned carrying wounded soldiers to safety. For his extraordinary bravery, Robert Quigg was awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest military honour. This documentary tells the story of the quiet North Antrim man whose courage became legendary on the battlefields of the Somme.
