Shohei Akimoto (39), a professional longboarder living in Miyazaki City, shared some fascinating stories about classic and famous surfboards during a visit to his secret storehouse. Inspired by his father, Akimoto began surfing 29 years ago. He took up longboarding seriously and mastered noseriding in just four months. He then competed against world-renowned surfers like Tyler Warren and Chad Marshall, winning the legendary Malibu Classic, a tournament he'd always dreamed of competing in. It was an unforgettable and irreplaceable experience. In addition, with the aim of preserving and revitalizing his hometown of Kaeda, where he grew up, he and his friends founded the "Kaeda Volunteers." Through grass-cutting, environmental maintenance, and event hosting, he continues to connect the charm of this surfing spot to future generations.
