I contemplated posting this, to be honest. It feels a little too vulnerable for me — but here it is anyways. If you know me well enough, if you know even 1/10 of the pains I endure each day, you’ll understand why this 30th year feels so surreal to me. In the midst of it all, I still wake up every day and get things done. It’s been God carrying me all the while. I know pain more than I know my own name. If you wake me up and ask me to talk about pain, trust me, I could tell you stories for months and you won’t get bored. But if you ask me to talk about myself… I may not have much to say. Achievement is so relative. For some of us, being able to wake up, get out of bed, and still show up in the midst of gbogbo rogbodiyan — that’s a daily achievement. So yes, this 30th year is a huge achievement for me, and I can’t stop being grateful to God. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. — Psalm 23:4 If you’re like me — walking through the valley of the shadow of death, yet still finding ways to fend for others, look out for others, and make people happy… If you’re like me, who carries pain gracefully, who wears it fashionably like a Gucci bag, head up and shoulders high as though on a runway… If you’re like me, who, even in pain, still carries others — Then I just want you to know: your life is GOOD. Because you come from a source that is good. You come from ALAMO IRE — The Moulder of Good. Don’t ever let pain make you think there’s something bad about your life.
