Exclusive Interview with Ex-Bathurst 1000 racing driver Bruce Stewart

Bruce Stewart raced the during the Bathurst 1000 for the first time in 1965 in Don Smiths HD Holden X2, after being asked to ride along with him for the Armstrong 500 (Bathurst 1000) Previously, Bruce raced around Bathurst in his own FJ Holden, however this moment in 1965 would be the start of a 27 year journey around Bathurst. Marked with "5th most entered Bathurst driver ever" however overlooked as being in the "Co-driver role" for most of his career. He would end up being along big names in big teams, Steve Masterton's co-driver from 1981-1985 for Masterton Homes in a Ford Capri, XE Ford Falcon, and VK Holden Commodore, Colin Bond in a Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 and Bob Pearson in the VL, VN and VP Holden commodores in the 90's. Further in the past, his Datsun 1600 winning in his class, and the mighty HD Holden, which is the focus of this interview as it was part of the 2026 HD/HR Nationals. The legacy of the Stewart family still lives on in motorsport after Bruce Stewart's final Bathurst 1000 in 1997, with 12 hours and 24 hours at Bathurst in following years. He also still races today as of June 2026 with his son Darren Stewart, who also run a Performance Road And Race Parts business.
