Vaartest IF

The new IF is an improved, class-compliant copy of the old model. A fast, yet easygoing sailor. Its handling is forgiving and friendly, and its improved ergonomics make it comfortable to sail. The handling has been refined over decades and works perfectly. The deep cockpit, high coaming, and clearly visible stability provide a (rightly) sense of security. Thanks to its stability, conservative hull shape, and sail plan, the IF easily handles more chop and strong winds, but in light air, it lacks sail area. The long keel makes motor maneuvering a bit more challenging, but also ensures high course stability and low sensitivity to water fleas. With a ready-to-sail price of just under €50,000, the boat seems affordable, but that doesn't include an engine, electrical system, or other touring yacht equipment. If you do want that, you'll be spending a good €75,000. If you opt for the relatively empty racing version, you can get by with an outboard motor, and the bill will be more attractive: €56,500. As a small family sailor, a racing boat – against other IFs – or a comfortable sailor for a small crew, the boat is excellent. A crossing to England? The IF is no problem.
