Karvalho began her professional career in 2001 when she formed the band Quiss with her brother. The following year, she was invited to join the vocals of the band Companhia do Calypso, where she performed for five years, gaining national visibility and selling over 2 million records. In 2008, the singer announced her departure from the project because, according to her, her professional work had become incompatible with her religious conversion to neo-Pentecostal Protestantism. In 2008, she announced that she would dedicate herself to recording only songs with Christian-themed lyrics, but in the same rhythm that made her famous, calypso.
