The Hardest Word
What’s the most difficult word in the Bible to our modern sensibilities? If you want to create some uncomfortable shifting in seats, read Ephesians 5:22 out loud in mixed company. Submit. Submit always sounds like someone loses. Someone doesn’t get their way. Someone has to give something up. But that’s so messed up if you actually read what Paul is trying to say. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Not only that but, my dudes — love your wives the way Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. Agape.
