The Zamindari system established by them has also been discussed. 1. Before 1865, the company used to import gold and silver from Britain for trade in India. 2. In 1770, 1 crore people died in the Bengal famine. 3. In 1793, the permanent settlement system was introduced. Rajas and Talukdars were recognized as landlords. 4. Mahalwari System: In 1822, Holt Mackenzie calculated the revenue from each village group (mahal) by adding the estimated revenue of each farm of the village. The chief was responsible for collecting the revenue. 5. Thomas Munro developed the Ryotwari system in South India. 6. By the end of the 18th century, the company forced Indians to cultivate indigo and opium. In 1810, the share of Indian indigo in the indigo imported by Britain was 95%. 7. Ryotwari System: Plantation owners would directly enter into contracts with the ryots, sometimes through the chief. Due to this, the ryots who took loans had to cultivate 25% of their land. 8. In 1859, the peasants refused to cultivate indigo. The Lieutenant Governor issued a notice that the peasants were not forced to cultivate indigo. 9. A rumour spread that Queen Victoria had advised against cultivation of indigo. After this, there was a rebellion and soldiers had to be called to kill the planters. 10. The commission held the planters guilty. After this, the production of indigo collapsed. #NCERT #NCERTHISTORY #NCERTHistory_Class_8 #NCERT6-12th #NCERTForUPSC #NCERTNotes #NCERTHISTORYFORBPSC #NCERTFORUPPCS #NCERTClass6 #NCERTClass6to12thforupsc #ncertforcbse #ncerthistoryinhindi #ncertclass6inhindi #ncertforupsc #ncerthistoryforupsc
