Borderline: A South Australian & Victorian Border Railway in HO Scale

Join me for a look at Borderline, an impressive HO Scale exhibition model railway layout built by Corey Gibson. Borderline is a fictional township set along the South Australian and Victorian border during the 1980s — a fascinating era of change in Australian railways. South Australian Railways had transitioned into Australian National, while Victorian Railways was evolving into V/Line, bringing with it the iconic orange and grey livery. The layout features a busy double-track mainline, country station, goods yard, grain silos, cement works, livestock siding, locomotive fuel depot, and a huge variety of trains from both sides of the border. You’ll see a colourful mix of SAR, AN, VR, and early V/Line locomotives and rolling stock, including SAR 930s, 830s, AN GM class, Victorian S, X and C classes, and even the occasional steam special. The layout is controlled using NCE DCC and includes a 14-road storage/fiddle yard, allowing a constant variety of trains to appear throughout exhibitions. Filmed at the 2026 Adelaide Model Railway Show, Borderline is one of those layouts you can catch at both major exhibitions and smaller regional shows around Australia. A big thanks to Corey Gibson for allowing me to film and feature the layout. Best watched in full HD!
