PADI Rescue Exercise 7: Unresponsive Diver at Surface - Mouth to Pocket Mask

Practicing rescue scenarios is crucial for any scuba diver! Here we are going through one of the PADI Rescue Diver Skills Exercises. Doing a proper demonstration of the skill will go a long way on the road of you becoming a great scuba instructor, and it is essential for scuba safety tips. Here are some additional guidelines: Approach: Regulator in right hand, splash top of head and shout Diver, Diver, are you okay? Drop your weights and inflate your BCD. Place regulator in mouth, look underwater to perform a scene assessment for safety. Approach victim and turn them face up and spit your regulator out. Perform the steps below while saying the steps aloud. Remember you are teaching this exercise: Inflating their BCD. Inflating my BCD Dropping their weights. Dropping my weights. [Do NOT reach across the body] Removing their mask. Removing my mask Removing their Regulator [put the regulator into the water mouthpiece down] Look, Listen and Feel for 10 seconds [Your ear must be close to their nose and your eyes on their chest} one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand………ten-one-thousand Wave overhead towards boat and shout, Captain, Captain, we have an unresponsive non-breathing diver at the surface. Call 911 and prepare for egress. Place pocket mask in victim. Two packing breaths. Breaths are one second long each. Begin Towing toward the exit point. Keep one hand on the person at all times. Begin counting aloud: One-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand-SET. On the word SET flick the water off your hand and pinch the nose to give the breath. Remember the breath is one second long. Perform two (2) COMPLETE breathing cycles while looking at the person’s equipment to see where everything is and what you will need to disconnect. After giving the third breath cycle, unclip ONE clip on the person’s BCD. Undo only ONE clip per breath cycle. Continue until the BCD is free, EXCEPT the belly clip or cummerbund is left fastened. Leave that connected and the person floating on their BCD. Perform the same steps to get out of your BCD. Completely remove your BCD. Once you are about 10 feet from the exit point, undo the remaining clip or cummerbund. After giving a breath, support the person’s head, grab the tank valve with your other hand and push down and then pull away the BCD. You may have to dump some, but not all, of the air from their BCD. Continue the breathing cycles while towing until you get to the exit point. After giving a breath, shout Captain, Captain, prepare for egress. Two Packing Breaths . Give the two packing breaths and the exercise is over. Remember, the breathing cycle takes precedence over removing gear. A breath must be administered every 5 seconds. If you get caught up and miss the 5 second mark, say, Two Packing Breaths and give two packing breaths and continue with your count. REMEMBER, YOU ARE TEACHING THIS EXERCISE. MOVEMENTS ARE EXAGGERATED AND SLOW, SHOWING THE OBSERVING STUDENTS WHAT YOU ARE DOING. 👉 Subscribe for dive tips, training insights, and adaptive diving stories. 🌐 Learn more or get involved: https://www.yourdiveconcierge.com/ #ScubaDiving #DiveTraining #Diveheart #DiveMentor #ScubaCoach #YourDiveConcierge #UnderwaterAdventure #RecreationalDiving #professionaldiving 📲 Follow us on Instagram & Facebook:   / yourdiveconcierge     / urdiveconcierge     / yourdiveconcierge     / your-dive-concierge   Scuba Guru Academy Affiliate Link: https://www.scubaguruacademy.com/?aff...
