Home - Welcome to "Bergisches Land" (Germany 1999)
I’ve already shown you the videos of my trips to London in 2000 and to Florida’s Space Coast in 1998. Ever wondered what happened in-between? Well, in 1999 I stayed home and actually made a “home” movie about that – tourist-style! I called it “Heimatfilm” in German. This is a slightly redacted version of it. Sorry guys, people are speaking German in this movie – but I think with a little background information an international audience will be able to enjoy it, too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bergisc... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remscheid http://www.germany.travel/en/ms/germa... • BEYENBURG Stausee (Reservoir) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuppert... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_Wu... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Ca...) https://www.nrw-tourism.com/the-bergi... There’s a lot of footage of my proud medieval home town of Lennep, birthplace of Wilhelm C. Röntgen and now a part of the city of Remscheid with its Allee Center and the Bismarck Tower Amateur Observatory, and also some footage of the neighboring village of Lüttringhausen and the Diepmannsbach Tal Autobahn Bridge area; Beyenburg Reservoir; the city of Wuppertal with its Stadthalle City Hall, scenic Nordstadt and Zoo – and of course the unique suspension railway called Schwebebahn; Müngstener Brücke Railway Bridge, currently involved in a serial application for the UNESCO World Heritage List; Solingen’s Schloss Burg Castle – This is Bergisches Land at its best! And because it was 1999, you’ll also see a few shots of the April 12 Schwebebahn accident and of the total solar eclipse on August 11 – actually only a partial one from my Wuppertal point of view. I’ll take you beyond Bergisches Land to the Rhine River, to North Rhine-Westphalia's capital Düsseldorf and DUS airport where I started my Florida and London trips, to Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) and to the Japanese Garden of Leverkusen. And you’ll also be able to watch a funny beach volleyball match involving two women pro players, three local politicians (two of them at the time running for Wuppertal mayor’s office and the third for a seat in the town council) and yes, a resident catholic priest… So, this is where I grew up and where I still live to this day. Things may have changed a bit during the past 20 years – but not much. And I like it that way. Hope you’ll like it too. And, because I really like their ironic approach to the city where babies are born already with an umbrella attached (It’s said there’s much rain in the Bergisches Land county – and people are probably right… most of the time), I’d also like you to take a look at this more recent 2011 Remscheid video by DSK: • DSK - Heimat / Remscheid [428XX] Other versions: • DSK - Heimat / Remscheid [Löwenparade-Vers... • Heimatlied Remscheid in neuer Version Macht mal Lärm! - What? We are the rain dance champions... but, as of 2019, there's still no Lennep "outlet center" - yet we've got a new Remscheid movie theatre. Ha! Go, DSK! I'm a fan.
