Physics is, above all, a tool for understanding the world. In this conversation, Christophe Galfard invites us to explore the history of the universe from its origins to the present day, explaining how humanity has gone from interpreting reality through myths to doing so through scientific laws. From Aristotle to Einstein, we discover how our way of thinking and understanding the cosmos has evolved. Galfard explains complex concepts like gravity, the expansion of the universe, and the Big Bang with surprising clarity. Through simple examples, he shows how science simplifies the seemingly incomprehensible and allows us to reconstruct the history of the universe, even though some questions remain unanswered. He also reflects on the role of physics in our daily lives: a way of "turning on the light" in the face of the unknown. Understanding the universe doesn't eliminate all our fears, but it does diminish them and expand our horizons. Because, as he himself suggests, perhaps the answers we don't yet have are waiting to be discovered by future generations. 00:00 Why study physics and what is the purpose of understanding the universe? 03:03 How did the universe originate? 15:46 Can understanding the universe help us overcome our fear of the unknown? 26:09 What does Einstein's equation mean and why is it so important? 35:18 What is quantum physics and what is it used for in real life? 48:31 What are black holes and why do they remain a mystery? 58:58 What is the multiverse and does it really exist? 1:03:32 Are we alone in the universe?
