How Love Island Taught Me I Wasn't "Desirable"

Heyy guyss 👋 Growing up watching Love Island from Season 2 onwards as a young Black girl, there was one moment every summer that used to make my heart sink: Day One. Watching the line-ups play out year after year—seeing Black women routinely picked last, friend-zoned, or told they weren’t anyone’s "type"—did something to my self-esteem. And growing up in South London, seeing colorism play out both on screen and in real life conditioned me to believe that Black beauty was somehow starting ten steps behind everyone else.
