After the lectures that presented different perspectives on the story of Joseph and his brothers, it was time for the event’s main panel. Led by Matan Hasidim, Rabbi Uri Sharki, Dr. Oren Yehi-Shalom, and Nathaniel Allinson gathered at one table for a lively, open, and unexpected conversation that attempted to answer one central question: What are we still failing to learn from the story of Joseph and his brothers? The panel did not settle for the biblical interpretation of the story, but sought to engage with the parable itself: What does the rift between the brothers teach us about Israeli society today? Why do internal divisions continue to accompany the Jewish people throughout the generations? Can diversity be turned into a source of blessing instead of a source of struggle? And what is required of us to rebuild trust and brotherhood within a divided people? Through the story of Joseph and his brothers, the participants discussed questions of identity, responsibility, leadership, reconciliation, and the future of Israeli society – in an attempt to understand how a story thousands of years old continues to resonate in today’s reality.
