Google updates now target individual content clusters, directories, and page types. For you, this means moving away from a blanket domain view and towards a granular analysis of your content ecosystems. At the same time, non-commodity content is gaining massive importance – content that only your brand can truly provide. Generic how-to guides or comparison texts, on the other hand, are losing visibility. Simultaneously, new challenges arise from ChatGPT updates, AI reviews, and mention-based rankings: In the future, brands will need to monitor not only traditional rankings but also AI visibility, citations, and mentions in chatbots and AI responses. The new AI reports in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools provide initial insights but remain superficial – real traffic or CTR data is lacking. SEO teams must therefore incorporate additional data sources, such as log files, brand KPIs, and conversion data, to make informed decisions. At the same time, the requirements for KPI setups, local SEO, and e-commerce are shifting. As Google, Bing, ChatGPT, and Copilot develop their own visibility logics, you need a KPI framework that makes presence, mentions, citations, and traffic proxies comparable without creating a false sense of precision. Legal developments—such as the Munich Regional Court ruling—could force Google to conduct more cautious AI reviews, which would strengthen the importance of high-quality primary sources. Brands also face new reputational risks, as AI systems can be influenced by manipulated user-generated content (UGC). In local SEO, business directories and consistent citations are regaining importance, while multilingual business profiles and the use of the product section for services should be employed strategically but cautiously.
