Taylor GS Mini Tres Cubano Conversion | GS Mini vs Baby Taylor | Tres Cubano | Cuban Tres
Taylor GS Mini Tres Cubano Conversion (GS Mini vs Baby Taylor) The verdict: I'm quite surprised by the side by side comparison. It seems the Baby Taylor is certainly the louder of the two, however I believe it's due to the pronounced mid range caused by the small body size. Though It's great for cutting through the mix in a group setting, the lack of low end really shows when playing solo. Of course the GS Mini is still brand new and will take some time to 'open up' as with any solid top. I really like the feel of the GS, the neck is a bit fatter than the Baby and it has a traditional heel. The Baby has a bolt on neck, so there is no heel at all, it almost looks like an electric guitar neck. Cost: Where I live (in Canada) the Baby retails for $329 and the GS Mini is $549 so it's quite obvious that the Baby is the better deal, however if you have larger hands (like me) it might be worth the extra money for the GS. Size: Pretty much all of the Tres Cubanos I've seen, and played in Cuba over the years are closer to the size of the GS Mini. It's rare to see a commercial Tres in Cuba as small as the Baby. The GS is 15/16 size where the Baby is 3/4. Wood: My Baby Taylor has a solid 'Tropical Mahogany' top and my GS has a 'Sitka Spruce' top. Both guitars come in either wood, I chose the spruce for the GS because it seemed a bit brighter. Links: Here's a link to the Tusq saddle I used: http://www.graphtech.com/products/bra... The song at the end of the video is the classic tune ‘El Reloj De Pastora’ played by the incredible ‘Septeto Trio Los Dos’ who have graciously given me permission to use.
