Fishing Penfold Island (Grays Point), Port Hacking

I headed down to Penfold Island in Port Hacking for a couple of early morning fishing sessions. This spot goes by many names—Grays Point, Grays Point Reserve, Mansion Point, Penfold Island, and Gundamaian—but no matter what you call it, it’s a prime location for fishing. The area is a broad sand flat held together by mangroves, teeming with bait like nippers and crabs. Naturally, this abundance draws in all sorts of estuary species. It’s also the point where the Hacking River flows into Port Hacking, making it a strategic location. If you set up along the narrow channel, your bait will be perfectly placed to intercept fish either heading upstream or moving out into the bay.
