150 Years of Reformed Instruction: What "Being Reformed" Means at Calvin Theological Seminary
What does it mean to be "Reformed"? In this episode of the Forum Podcast, Dr. Karin Maag and Dr. Ronald Feenstra sit down with Director of Communications Phillip Palacios to discuss a years-long faculty project at Calvin Theological Seminary that started as an internal conversation and grew into a collection of essays exploring Reformed identity across disciplines. They unpack what Reformed theology means at Calvin Seminary, from the sovereignty of God and the depth of human sin, to covenantal community and the broad scope of God's redemption, and why it can sound a lot like "basic Christianity" to outsiders. They also share how the project opened windows into each other's classrooms, brought together voices from across the globe, and why they see it less as a definitive statement and more as a snapshot that adds to the conversation as Calvin Seminary stands at its 150th year. This book will be available late summer 2026 In this episode: How a faculty hallway conversation sparked a 5+ year project What Reformed theology emphasizes that other traditions don't Why the book was written for laypeople, not scholars What John Calvin might recognize, and not recognize, in the seminary today Calvin Theological Seminary has been training ministry leaders in the Reformed tradition since 1876. ------ Calvin Seminary Website - https://calvinseminary.edu/ Programs Overview - https://calvinseminary.edu/seminary-p...
