It is called Conali and is native to Southeast Asia. It produces a small egg-shaped tuber shallow in the soil. The tuber is white and has a thin skin. Chickpeas are grown as garden vegetables in Sri Lanka. Locals boil it with extra parts or cook it as a vegetable. The crude protein content of this tuber variety is similar to that of Angili Ala (Dioscorea alata). In terms of carbohydrate content of chickpeas, echinoderms and Dioscorea alata, chickpeas topped the list with the highest total carbohydrate content at 26.84±0.94% (1). Chicken also contains 6.11 ± 0.01 grams of dietary fiber and 1.30 grams of protein (6). Kukulala is a tuber used in alternative medicine to treat various ailments. For example, in Ayurveda, turmeric is widely used to treat anorexia and excessive thirst. It also helps in weight loss and increases urination. Locals also use it as an appetizer (7). Due to its micro-nutritional value, it is combined with essential vitamins and minerals. For example, chicken contains significant amounts of manganese: 4.42±0.10 µg/g.
