Florence Lights Up for Christmas You Won’t Believe How Magical It Gets

Welcome back, everyone! In this episode, we’re stepping straight into the heart of Tuscany as Florence lights up for Christmas. From the glowing Christmas tree in Piazza del Duomo to dazzling light shows flickering across Renaissance facades, I’ll take you through the city’s most enchanting holiday spots. We’ll wander down my favourite twinkling streets, explore Florence’s cosy Christmas market, and I’ll reveal my top three must-visit stalls that capture the real Christmas spirit of Italy. Get ready — this is Christmas in Florence like you’ve never seen it before! So, it’s that magical time of year again here in Florence. The Christmas season kicks off in early December with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th is a national public holiday in Italy, known as "Festa dell'Immacolata." and you can really feel the city getting into the spirit. Shops are decked out with festive windows, and every morning there seem to be more sparkling lights popping up all over the city’s hotspots. Florence really knows how to do Christmas right — blending its art, architecture, and history into the most stunning light display. So, come along with me as Florence Lights Up for Christmas — it’s a true festival of lights, and you’re ‘gonna love it’! Starting December 7th and running through January 7th, 2025, Florence officially kicks off its light festival — and it all begins with the lighting of the Christmas trees in front of the Duomo, Piazza della Repubblica, and Piazzale Michelangelo. Via de’ Tornabuoni is one of the most beautiful streets to stroll along. But this time of year, especially at night, it totally transforms. The whole city glows, and the vibe is just magical. Next stop — the Christmas Market in Piazza Santa Croce! By day, it’s already buzzing — the air is filled with the smell of mulled wine, roasted nuts, and all kinds of delicious snacks. The stalls are bursting with colour, showcasing handmade gifts, artisan chocolates, and beautifully crafted Christmas ornaments — it’s pure festive magic. After dark the market transforms! The lights glow brighter, the music feels warmer, and the whole piazza takes on this cosy, storybook atmosphere. Now, if you’ve ever been to the famous Nuremberg market in Germany, you’ll spot the difference right away. Florence’s market has this “old-world charm meets Tuscan flair” — it’s a blend of tradition and elegance that feels uniquely Florentine, not the classic Bavarian style you’d find in Nuremberg. And of course, I can’t forget my top three stalls: Vino Brulé, Coconut Balls, and that irresistible apple strudel. And then… Florence by night. ✨ The narrow cobblestone streets — the ones you might have just wandered through during the day — suddenly take on a completely different character. Under the soft glow of Christmas lights, they feel almost cinematic. You turn a corner and bam — another breathtaking view: a centuries-old façade glistening with golden reflections, or fairy lights draped across tiny balconies. License code: XAWBNC91CVYYMNM4 As another Christmas in Florence comes to an end, I always take a moment to reflect on what the season really means to me. Living here as an expat for several years has changed how I see Christmas — it’s less about the rush and more about simple joys: lights twinkling on cobblestone streets, a warm glass of Vino Brulé, and the feeling of belonging, even far from home. For me, Christmas in Florence always ends the same way — with something sweet and simple. But no matter where I am, my family is always in my heart. I hope you’ve enjoyed this special Christmas edition. Don’t forget to give me a thumbs up, share this with a friend, and subscribe if you haven’t already — it really helps me keep creating and sharing these moments with you. So, as I get ready to board a plane and head Down Under, I want to wish you all a safe, happy, and joy-filled Christmas. Buon Natale and thank you for spending another magical Christmas in Florence with me. Ciao & See You Next Episode.
