Exploring a Nature Reserve Created by Indigenous People | Wild Madagascar

In this episode, I document my visit to the Anja Community Reserve in central-southern Madagascar. This area of habitat is protected due to the efforts of the indigenous Betsileo people, an unusual phenomena on the island. This area of dry forest and awe-inspiring granite hills is home to an amazing assemblage of species including unique reptiles, amphibians, insects, birds and one of the highest concentrations of Madagascar's most famous animal. In the past decade or so, new lizard species have been described in the Anja Community Reserve, which may never have been found if the reserve wasn't created.
