Variable Action Heroes Gear 4 Luffy | ONE PIECE | BOUNCEMAN | DRESSROSA | UNBOXING | REVIEW |ASMR

We are bouncing straight into Dressrosa for this one! 🦩💥 MegaHouse has finally given us the Variable Action Heroes Gear 4 Boundman Luffy, and since Tamashii hasn't given us a proper 1/12 scale version of this form yet, the hype for this release is real. Does this massive figure earn its place on the shelf, or are we better off waiting for S.H. Figuarts to step up? First things first: the scale. Variable Action Heroes isn't technically a 1/12 scale line—their figures usually run a bit larger—but because Gear 4 Luffy is absolutely massive in the anime, this guy scales surprisingly well with the S.H. Figuarts line. When you stand him next to the rest of your Straw Hats, he has that massive, inflated presence you want out of a Boundman release. As far as the aesthetic goes, he is a solid figure. The paintwork on the gloss-black Armament Haki arms and legs looks gorgeous, and the sculpt captures his jacked upper body perfectly. That being some real talk, though: he definitely leans a bit more statue-esque than a standard action figure. The articulation is a bit limited due to his sheer bulk and weight, and the ab crunch is almost non-existent. He can hit the essential, iconic Gear 4th poses using the included display stand, but don't expect him to be pulling off crazy dynamic runs. Now, for my absolute biggest pet peeve with this release: they forgot the scar under his eye. 🤦‍♂️ I have no idea how MegaHouse managed to miss one of Luffy’s most defining traits on a premium figure like this! For a character we've been looking at for hundreds of episodes, leaving out the facial scar is a pretty wild oversight. It’s an easy fix if you’re brave enough to use a fine-liner paint brush, but right out of the box, it’s a definite bummer. Overall, if you need a Gear 4 Boundman to round out your Dressrosa display and want something more dynamic than a static statue, this is a really solid pick-up. He looks incredible on display, even if he’s a bit of a "pose-it-and-leave-it" figure.
