Differences Between Fresh, Dried, Fried, and Powdered Chinese Yam (Huai Shan) Regardless of the form, all varieties possess benefits like boosting Qi, nourishing Yin, replenishing the spleen, lungs, and kidneys, securing essence, and stopping vaginal discharge. Fresh Chinese Yam: Contains a high amount of mucilage, primarily composed of mannan and mucoprotein. Mannan is a water-soluble hemicellulose widely used in medicinal diets.
