I Tried to Get Healthy and Almost Destroyed Myself

TW: This episode includes an honest discussion of disordered eating and eating disorders. If this is a sensitive topic for you, please take care of yourself first. Support is available through the National Eating Disorders Association helpline at 1-800-931-2237. This is the episode that started my journey into nutrition, fitness, and ultimately coaching. At 14 years old I set out to get healthy and strong as an athlete. A year later I was exercising three times a day, barely eating fat, and completely convinced I was doing everything right. This episode is the story of how I ended up at my weakest physically and mentally, what finally pulled me out, and why that experience is the reason I pursued nutrition seriously with a degree in Dietetics. What started as a goal to get bigger and stronger turned into something I did not see coming and could not see clearly while I was in it. Bad information, the wrong mindset, and no one to show me a better path created the perfect storm. This is my personal story of what misinformation and improper nutrition can do to you, and how it has shaped me as an athlete and cheerleading coach to this day. This episode also marks the beginning of something new. A full nutrition series is coming to this podcast, built from the ground up to give athletes and coaches the foundation they actually need. Real science, real application, and a healthy relationship with food that lasts.
