Joseph is sold as a slave to the Egyptians, and Potiphar notices that there is something extraordinary about him. He appoints Joseph, a slave, in charge of his household. Joseph has obviously surrendered to God’s will, and this is where Joseph stands in contrast to Jacob, his father. He realizes that he cannot change the circumstances he is in so instead he decides to serve God and his fellow man in the circumstance he is in. This is great wisdom.
