Xcode 27 Runs Any AI Agent Now via ACP (First Impressions)

Xcode 27 is the first time AI coding agents feel like a genuine, first-class part of building real iOS apps. The beta ships with Device Hub, a unified app for controlling every simulator and physical device in one place, plus built-in agent tooling that lets a coding agent run your app, drive the simulator, take screenshots, run tests, and validate its own work natively. No third-party setup required. What makes Xcode 27 different is ACP, the Agent Client Protocol. Instead of being locked into one vendor's assistant, you can plug in almost any coding agent, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, Cursor's Composer, even GLM 5.2, and they all get Xcode's native device automation for free. ACP is to agents and editors what LSP was to language servers, a shared standard so they finally play nicely together. Apple supporting it this early is a big signal. In this video, I plug Claude, Codex, Composer 2.5, and GLM 5.2 into Xcode 27 via ACP, compare Xcode's built-in automation tools against XcodeBuildMCP, watch an agent test the app inside Device Hub completely natively, give my honest take on GLM 5.2 (and why its lack of vision input is a dealbreaker for this workflow), and explain why ACP matters more than it looks. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 COLD INTRO 0:10 What's new in Xcode 27 Beta (and how to download it) 0:36 Device Hub: every simulator and device in one place 1:12 Xcode can now automate the simulator and test itself 1:19 XcodeBuildMCP (and why it just got acquired by Sentry) 1:41 Bring your own agent: Claude, Codex, Gemini, Composer, GLM 2:12 What MCP tools Xcode exposes (+ how it reads your mcp.json) 2:57 Xcode's built-in tools vs XcodeBuildMCP: my findings 3:44 ACP explained: why Apple supporting it is a big deal 4:45 Trying GLM 5.2 (and why no vision input is a problem) 5:21 Adding any agent via ACP (OpenCode + Cursor Composer 2.5) 6:08 Native testing and /context running inside Xcode 6:37 The MCP redundancy problem (no toggle yet) 6:56 Final thoughts: why I'm excited about Xcode again 🔗 LINKS Xcode 27 release notes: https://developer.apple.com/documenta...
