Туніс 2026: їдемо з круїзного порта до Сіді-Бу-Саїда та Карфагена
Sidi Bou Said is a world-famous picturesque city-museum in Tunisia, located on a cliff at the foot of the Gulf of Carthage, just 20 km from the country's capital. The city is named after the Sufi saint Abu Said al-Baji. It has the status of "African Santorini" due to its unique architecture: since 1915, the law has prohibited changing the appearance of buildings, so all the houses here remain snow-white, and the windows, doors and grilles are bright blue. What is known and what to see in Sidi Bou Said: Panoramic views: The city stands on a hill, from where an incredible view of the Mediterranean Sea and the ruins of ancient Carthage opens. Dar Ennejma Ezzahra Palace: A luxurious residence of Baron Rudolph d'Erlange, built at the beginning of the 20th century. Today it is the Museum of Arab and Mediterranean Music. Dar El Annaba Museum: A traditional Arab house where you can see the life and culture of wealthy Tunisians. Legendary cafes: The famous Café des Nattes (Café of Mats) and Café Sidi Chebaane, where you can enjoy traditional Tunisian green tea with pine nuts or almonds. Artistic atmosphere: The city has long attracted artists and writers, including Paul Klee, Henri Matisse and Guy de Maupassant. Carthage is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, located in Tunis, just 15 km from the capital and close to the town of Sidi Bou Said. Today it is an open-air museum, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the ruins of a magnificent ancient city, which was once the main rival of Ancient Rome, are preserved. What to see in Carthage: Thermae Antoninus Pius: The largest Roman bath complex outside of Italy, located directly on the seashore. Birsa Hill: The ancient citadel from where Carthage began. Here are the excavations of the Punic quarter and the majestic Cathedral of St. Louis. National Museum of Carthage: The main museum of the complex, which houses unique mosaics, marble statues and everyday objects of the Phoenicians. Roman Amphitheater: Once held up to 40 thousand spectators, and today it hosts large-scale music festivals. Punic Ports: The remains of a unique military and trading harbor of the Phoenicians, which had a circular shape. Tophet: A mysterious and eerie open-air sanctuary-burial site, where sacrifices were made to the gods Baal-Hammon and Tanit. Useful tips for visiting: Single ticket: Buy one general ticket (costing about 20 dinars / $4), which gives access to all 8 main archaeological sites. Transportation: Since the ruins are spread over a large area, it is difficult to walk between them. It is better to hire a taxi for a few hours or take a bicycle tour. Combination: A trip to Carthage is ideal to combine in one day with a walk to nearby Sidi Bou Said.
