One of 1993's most widely acclaimed films was this Merchant-Ivory effort starring Anthony Hopkins as a butler in a stately home near Oxford who, in 1956, takes a road trip with a former colleague (Emma Thompson) and reminisces with her about the days he spent in the 1930s and 1940s at Darlington Hall.
