She tries to make him understand that he is a good guy and should at least try to behave himself. But well, he doesn't want anyone to tell him how to deal with his issues and he ignores her, making a distance between them even bigger. Finally Elena catches him with another women. Even if she knew that their relationship was fragile, barely existing at this point, she was devastated. In the end she decides to leave - either for a longer vacation or even forever.
