Every year, 1.4 billion tons of food are thrown away worldwide. This waste, the vast majority of which ends up in landfills, accounts for 6% of greenhouse gas emissions. To limit this ecological footprint, the French government has implemented source sorting of biowaste since January 1, 2024. However, this sorting is currently only accessible to one in three French people. In comparison, South Korea has mandated food waste recycling for nearly 20 years. Today, the country serves as a model, with nearly all biowaste recycled.
