ELLIS Unit Jena Summer Lecture Series on “Explainability & Understanding of Models” featured Dr. Hila Chefer (Tel Aviv University). The lecture titled “Toward Generative Models that Understand the Visual World,” addressed limitations of current visual generative models in capturing spatial relations, physics, motion, and dynamic interactions. It presented approaches based on analyzing internal model mechanisms to improve spatial and temporal reasoning in image and video generation, surpassing larger proprietary models without additional data or scaling. The lecture took place on June 1, 2026, from 14:00–16:00 at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany.
