Cologne Cathedral stands at a staggering 157.4 meters, making it the tallest Catholic cathedral in Europe. Construction began in 1248 and was finally completed in 1880, a remarkable 632 years. This unprecedented 632-year period of construction was unprecedented. The architectural style prevalent when construction resumed on the cathedral, which had been left unfinished for over 300 years, was Baroque. Gothic architecture, which began around the 12th century, led the medieval architectural trend for approximately three centuries before giving way to the Renaissance in the 15th century. The resumption of construction on the cathedral, which had been halted, was politically motivated, aiming to establish the identity of the Prussian Empire, which had formed a unified Germany.
