In the home office era, controlling bosses are out
The experience of the pandemic has reinforced the desire for workplace flexibility and not just on the part of employees. Employers too are coming around to the idea that letting people work from home can increase productivity, reduce costs and benefit the environment to boot. But there are lots of questions and one of the biggest is how to manage people from a distance. A decentralized workforce calls for a new leadership style, says Volker Schulte, professor of health management at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland. In this interview with CNNMoney’s Olivia Chang, he describes the ideal relationship between bosses and their underlings in the era of the home office.
