Nenqayni Drummers

The group was founded by Lillian in November 1993. Sandra joined right away then came Patricia. Along the way, Val and Juanita Duncan joined, then Maggie, Tanya and Joyce. Most recently, Sandra's daughter Lauren joined and then Chief Marilyn was recruited. In total, there are ten women in the group. In November 2011 it will be 18 years that this group has been going. During that time, they have traveled all over the Cariboo to sing for so many different events, celebrations, open houses, openings, weddings, funerals and the famous Williams Lake Stampede Parade. At one time Margaret Anne Gunn was part of the group until she married and moved away. The only man who has ever been part of the group was Jeff Sherstabetoff then he married and moved away. The grandchildren are usually close by when the group entertains. The songs and the drum has made changes in all the lives of the group. Some more significant than others but all positive. The group has been traveling and teaching when they can in the Chilcotin, first at Stone then Anaham. They have also been teaching communities to make drums so now there are over 100 drums in the Chilcotin. To book this group, send an email to Lillian at [email protected].
