Allotria ! ... Peter Kreuder am Klavier (Berlin, May 1936 / 4K/ Colorized)
Today's video features Peter Kreuder playing the melodies he composed for Willi Forst's 1936 screwball comedy "Allotria" starring Adolf Wohlbrück (Anton Wallbrook), Renate Müller, Heinz Rühmann, Jenny Jugo and Hilde Hildebrand. The best-known songs from "Allotria" are "Komm', spiel' mit mir Blindekuh" (Lit Let's play hide and seek) and "Viola" (Dort wo du hingehst / Wherever you go) which was the theme song of Renate Müller's character in the movie. Together with "Glückskinder" and "Sieben Ohrfeigen", "Allotria" is one of the few German screwball of comedies of the 1930s. Fast-paced and with some clever visual gags, "Allotria" tells the story of best friends Philipp (Wohlbrück) and David (Rühmann) who have sworn to never fall in love with the same woman. However, both were involved with the glamorous, older Aimée (Hildebrand). David, a race car driver is about to marry Gaby (Jugo). Philipp, a successful plantation owner, meets Viola (Müller) on an ocean crossing to Europe and falls in love with her. Scared of commitment, Philipp ruins their final night aboard. Viola is best friends with Gaby and when Philipp sees Viola again at David and Gaby's house the women decide to pull a prank on him and pretend Viola is David's wife. Philipp for his part sees through the deception and decides to play a trick on them. Aimée on her part also causes chaos wherever she goes... The video features scenes from "Allotria". These sequences have been restored, upscaled to a 4K resolution and colorized. The colorization is AI based and NOT historically accurate. It is purely intended for entertainment purposes and gives an impression of what the movie and its stars might have looked like. The software used includes Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere and Topaz Video AI. The record which is in quite bad condition was transferred using a Graham Slee Revelation M Phono Preamp (bass Turnover 375 Hz - Rolloff 0) in combination with a Klark Teknik Tube Equalizer. The cartridge and stylus used is an Ortofon Om78. Editing was done in Adobe Audition. The B-side is presented first followed by the A-side which features "Komm', spiel' mit mir Blindekuh".
