Klavier-Reparatur - Knauss, Coblenz (Teil 3/8)

https://www.stimmungen.de The film series shows the complex repair of a piano made by Knauss in Koblenz ("Coblenz" as it was spelled at the time). My colleague Egon Zähringer from Cologne entrusted me with this wonderful instrument for repair because he didn't have enough time to overhaul it himself. He knows that the piano is in good hands with me and that I do a good job. Thank you for your trust and the friendly partnership! In the third part, we'll focus on the acoustic system. We'll fix the loose ribs and fill the cracks in the soundboard with soundboard shavings. The brass soundpost cover will be polished, the tuning pin holes will be drilled out, the inserted soundboard shavings will be stained, and the soundboard will be varnished. In between, I'll briefly look at the piano's mechanics: I'll remove the hammers, whose caps have a special feature, so they can be sent for refelting. After the soundboard has been varnished, the now-varnished cast iron plate can be reinserted and screwed in place. The treble strings are reattached. The sounding lengths are measured to recalculate the string gauges. Video, editing, and music ©2025 Stefan Lang
