For example, in 2021, a Chinese company wanted to build the world's largest A methanol plant in the Khabarovsk Oblast. However, the project was thwarted in a district referendum, in which 90% voted against. However, the State Duma soon passed a law limiting the autonomy of local governments, thus repealing any similar referendums in the future. Since then, Chinese companies have been seeking opportunities to further exploit the region's deposits, and China doesn't necessarily need to take over Siberia by force to make it theirs. If we officially know that 2 million Chinese reside there, and unofficially 4 million, then considering that the region's population is less than 34 million, between 7 and 12% of the population is Chinese. This process is constantly progressing. Beijing is located in the center of Siberia, but it is also closer to its key cities than Moscow.
